Sonia Velázquez, Executive Director
Sonia Velázquez joined the LFAOU Board of Directors in 2018 and in 2019 became the Executive Director, in order to guide the organization through a period of transition following the retirement of its founder and Executive Director. Sonia has a career of more than 30 years in multiple aspects of human services program development and implementation, leadership, governance, stakeholder engagement, management, and advocacy.
She is a native of Colombia and has worked extensively in the United States and internationally. Most recently she was the Executive Director of an international foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. Her vision, multiple perspectives, and strategic planning expertise is helping to ensure Literature for All of Us’ continued growth and development.
Sonia is also involved in the start-up of a socioeconomic development project in Cartagena, Colombia, in partnership with a local fishing community and her own family. She is happy to be living in Chicago again, where she is closer to her son and daughter!
